Logistics support at the Port of Felixstowe
The Port of Felixstowe is the UK’s busiest container terminal, and it plays a significant role in the nation’s trade. Located near the open sea and being close to the main European shipping routes makes it an ideal hub for international shipping. Moreover, with deep-water berths, the port can handle the world’s largest container vessels. Having extended rail and road links to major UK distribution hubs, as well as operating advanced systems for tracking, loading, and unloading, ensures fast turnaround times and improves the port’s efficiency in cargo movement.

FAQs
Shipping goods through Felixstowe is a straightforward process with GP Logistics. Simply provide us with the shipment details, preferred schedule, and any specific requirements, and our team will handle the rest. We manage the booking, complete all necessary documentation, coordinate with the port, arrange transport, and facilitate customs clearance to ensure a smooth and efficient cargo movement.
The Port of Felixstowe handles a wide range of cargo, including containerised shipments (FCL and LCL), RoRo vehicles, bulk cargo, liquid bulk, fresh products, and specialised freight. In addition, the port has terminals for dry bulk such as animal feed and fertilizer, as well as liquid bulk like crude oil. If you require support with the transportation and handling of this expanded range of commodities, GP Logistics can assist with your specific logistics requirements.
Once all necessary paperwork is provided/submitted for the goods being imported, our team will coordinate shipment’s arrival. If you require our customs clearance services, our system integrates with HMRC system to ensures timely processing. Once goods are cleared the port will unload the container and will place it on the terminal. We work closely with the port to arrange cargo release and final delivery.
For LCL shipments, the process is similar, but cargo is deconsolidated at the port or an authorized warehouse before final distribution.
For exported containers, it is essential to provide all required documentation before cargo reaches the port. Goods must be properly packaged and labelled. Upon request, our customs agents can handle all formalities. It is important to mention that every container loaded onto a vessel or truck requires a Verified Gross Mass (VGM). It is crucial to provide the exact weight of shipment, including packaging as regulations are in place to protect integrity of infrastructure, equipment and other shippers’ cargo. Once goods are cleared, we will coordinate with the port and shipping line to load the cargo. After the vessel departs, we will monitor the shipment’s progress and provide updates until it reaches its final destination.
